Carnal in the Land of Blood and Beauty

for Grant Hayunga

To make of fur a furred thing. To make
of fur a doe who is surprised to be a doe
who walks upright in the blood and danger.
To make a wolf lunging over marbled snow,
a falcon among flowers, a hare
bemused by a raven’s headstand.
To make not only the night branches,
but the quavering owl [not pictured].
One way is to make everything look
like everything else; the harder way
is to make everything look like itself
and more than itself. Golden,
the cloven field, and the live oaks
nostalgic in the winter of their intentions.
The pronghorn’s gaze radiates a wary
equanimity amid the burgeoning. Meanwhile,
the somnambulist wanders the blue night,
crows rise on wings of black flame,
and the skies grow menacing, if by menace
we mean the trees’ stark clarity against the bright
omen of cloud. Omen, we say, a sound
more lips than tongue—half ominous, half amen.

Meet the Artists

GRANT HAYUNGA

Whether manifested in art for the eyes or the ears, Grant has always created from his own blood and bones. His art, whatever form it takes, is always from the soul and for the soul. Both sub and supraliminal. Both sub and suprahuman. Hayunga has created an interconnected series of paintings, all of which give the viewer insight into his unique perspective on earth and its creatures, the spirit bound as it is in flesh.

Grant Hayunga will stop creating when he stops breathing, and not a moment before.

ELIZABETH DECICCO

Perhaps Elizabeth DeCicco and the camera were fated for one another. First, she discovered her gift for capturing what she saw. A bit later, the camera fell for her, and as she traveled the world acting and modeling, she took photos of everything. She observed. Her relationship with the camera evolved. She is a giver and a creator. She sees the souls and feelings and intellect in all created things. She breathes life into her creations, whether as a photographer, a thespian, or a singer, imbuing them with her essence. She is both the seer and the seen. She is both the light and its observer.

CONNECT WITH GRANT HAYUNGA STUDIO GALLERY

There are many ways to connect with the gallery, with the artists, and with the work. While mechanical reproductions and virtual renderings of original art are vitally important in that they give greater numbers of people access to art, nothing compares to the sensual experience of existing in the same time and place as real, physical art. You are invited to exist with the art at Grant Hayunga Studio Gallery in Sante Fe, New Mexico, in the United States. If you would like to send us a message, please do so here.
