THE LOCUS

Grant Hayunga Studio Gallery is located in Sante Fe, New Mexico. Here you will find the work of
Grant Hayunga and Elizabeth DeCicco.

GRANT HAYUNGA

He/the musician/the painter

In this incarnation, he makes art.

It began in 1970 in New York City. That’s when and where Grant Hayunga came into the world, and soon it was clear that his perception was attuned differently from that of most people…such is the way with the born artist. Whether manifested in art for the eyes or the ears, Grant has always created from his own blood and bones. His art, whatever form it takes, is always from the soul and for the soul. Both sub and supraliminal. Both sub and suprahuman.

Even before graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design, he was Santa Fe-bound, having been signed by Linda Durham Contemporary Art…maybe he’d been seen and called home.

Hayunga has created interconnected series of paintings, all of which give the viewer insight into his unique perspective on earth and its creatures, the spirit bound as it is in flesh.

Grant Hayunga will stop creating when he stops breathing, and not a moment before.

“I can tell by the look in your eyes that it’s going to be a wicked road ahead for you boy, and you need to keep your gaze straight ahead.”

-Townes Van Zandt to 20-year-old Grant Hayunga

ELIZABETH DECICCO

She/the observer/the observed

She is the seer…look at what she sees.

A little girl’s universe stretches from her hometown of Chicago to upstate New York, and for one so small the distance is immense. Her flip flash camera with a Kodapack cartridge is her talisman, her way of holding memories of distant ones close and making sense of the world. She discovers, too, that with her camera she is able to capture the essential spark of sentience that she recognizes in animals.

Perhaps Elizabeth DeCicco and the camera were fated for one another. First, she discovered her gift for capturing what she saw. A bit later, the camera fell for her, and as she traveled the world acting and modeling, she took photos of everything. She observed. Her relationship with the camera evolved.

She is a giver and a creator. She sees the souls and feelings and intellect in all created things. She breathes life into her creations, whether as a photographer, a thespian, or a singer, imbuing them with her essence.

She is both the seer and the seen.

She is both the light and its observer.

THEY

Again, New York City. Mutual friends, the taping of a nationally broadcast program…Grant and Elizabeth like magnets across the room.

More than a spark.

Later they discover French horses in common, and ways of seeing that overlap. Their worlds merge.

Now they make things together. A gallery. Art. A life.

They sing together in Goshen, a band and a region of Egypt where the Israelites dwelled pre-Exodus.

They leave these offerings for you.
